Is Fairing Needed for Malone Aero-Style Crossbars on Subaru Impreza Hatchback

Question:

In my past experience with roof racks a wind deflector is almost a must. I have only used round bars in the past, will I need a wind deflector for # MPG215? I have a 2018 Subaru Impreza 5 door hatchback with factory side rails.

I absolutely agree that a wind deflector ends up being a quick after-the-fact purchase for many customers who have round or square crossbars put on their vehicle's roof. With that being said, wind noise and drag is much less of an issue with aero-style crossbars like what are on the Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack # MPG215 that you referenced for your Impreza Hatchback.

Typically with bars like these a wind deflector isn't needed since they do a much better job of cutting through the air during travel. This along with the sleeker appearance is the main benefit of aero-style bars.

I really don't think you will feel the need to add deflectors/fairing to the Malone bars once they're mounted to the roof. If by chance though you want to add them afterwards the Rhino-Rack 44" # RRRF3 will work well.
