Expert Reply:
The factory trailer hitch on a 2012 Ford Escape is a Class II 1-1/4 inch hitch. The DeadBolt 1-1/4 Inch Hitch Lock, part # e98879, that you have referenced is designed for 1-1/4 inch hitches, but there have been some factory 1-1/4 inch hitches that it has not worked on because of the thickness of the steel surrounding the factory hitch receiver opening.
I would recommend that you measure the overall outside width of your trailer hitch where the hitch pin goes through your hitch and if that measurement is less than 2 inches then the DeadBolt lock will work.
If your measurement is larger than 2 inches I would recommend the MasterLock 1-1/4 Inch Hitch Lock, part # TR63254. This hitch lock has an inside pin length of 2-3/4 inches and can be keyed alike.
