Bike Rack That Allows Full Rear Hatch Access on 2013 Honda Odyssey

Question:

How do we secure the anchor straps inside to where the hatch can be opened with an empty bike rack?

The trunk-mount Hollywood Racks # HRF2 is an excellent carrier but to give you full access to the rear of your Odyssey while you're transporting bikes the way to go is a hitch and hitch-mount bike rack that will tilt or swing away from the vehicle to give you access to the cargo area. All trunk-mount bike racks share the limitation of not allowing you to open a rear hatch or trunk when one is installed. They also prevent use of a rear wiper when one is present on the car. Other benefits of a hitch type rack include retaining use of the rear wiper and the fact that the bike and rack weight is now carried on the car's steel frame rather than on its sheet metal hatch.

If you wish to install a hitch I recommend the Draw-Tite Max Frame model # 75270 because it has a high 675-lb tongue weight capacity and offers simple no-drill installation as you'll see in the linked video. With it you can use a hitch rack such as the 4-bike Thule Hitching Post Pro # TH934XTR or the 2-bike Camber # TH9058 both of which tilt away from the vehicle.
