Reverse Light Circuit Fuse Blown After Installing C57674

Question:

We purchased a 2019 Hyundai Santa FE XL Limited Ultimate AWD and had them put on a class 2 hitch and a 4 flat wiring harness. I purchased a adaptor: 4 pole to 7 pole and 4 pole with test lamps from your company item#C57674 to accompandate hooking up to my trailer. When backing up the trailer which has surge brakes and requires the solenoid to enagage to release for backing up sometimes it would release and sometimes not. I checked the fuse box under the hood and the 20amp fuse was blown. The dealership stated the company downsized from a 30amp to 20 amp fuse for their trailer harness because their harness is only rated for 20 amp. I am looking for a 30amp 4 flat trailer connector/harness, so i will be able to utilize backing up my trailer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like you used the Curt 4 Pole to 7 Pole adapter part # C57674 for the reverse light function to wire in an actuator with a electric reverse lockout solenoid. Is the reverse light circuit fuse the one that keeps blowing? If so, then I would check the wiring from to the reverse solenoid for any obvious signs of a short, like frayed wired or damage. You also want to make sure the C57674 is properly grounded to a clean bare metal surface. There is not a 4-flat available that is 30 amps, the one available for the Santa Fe is 5 amps and the Curt part you purchased C57674 is used to wire to the reverse light circuit for hydraulic brakes so it is what you need.

Another option is to plug the 4-flat that you have into the Adapter 4-Pole to 5-Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter - Shorter part # 47515 and extend the blue wire to the reverse light circuit with a quick splice connector.

Please let me know if the fuse you are referring to is not the reverse light fuse and we can troubleshoot further.
