Installing 5-Way Trailer Connector on 2019 Kia Sorento
Question:
Hi. I have a trailer with surge brakes with a 5pin flat connector. Where on the 2019 Sorento is the most convenient location to get the connection to the reverse lights. The reverse lights are on the lift gate and will be difficult to splice and rout the wires. Is there a closer location to the factory trailer prep location to make this connection. Also will I need to use a relay for this application.

In order to install a 5-Way connector on your 2019 Kia Sorento you will need to start with a 4-Way harness if you don't already have one. For this the Curt T-Connector # C56332 will work perfectly if the Sorento is equipped with the factory tow package.
With the 4-Way in place the easiest solution is to use the Tow Ready Adapter # 20036 to convert it to a 5-Way for use with the connector on your trailer. As you mentioned the additional blue wire will need to be spliced to the reverse light circuit wire on the vehicle. Since the lamps are located on the liftgate you will just need to access this wire before it reaches the hatch. I wasn't able to pin point a specific location for this on your Sorento but typically on vehicles like this the harness will be hidden behind the interior plastic panels so these will need to be removed. Simply try and find wiring that leads to the backup bulbs and use a circuit tester like # PTW2979 to find the wire that gets power when the Sorento is in reverse.
This installation will not require any kind of relay,
