Troubleshooting Brake Light Signal Connection for Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller 39510
Question:
I have a 2014 Ram 1500 with a Tekonsha 9030 Voyager Electronic Brake Control installed. It was working fine then quit. When I press the brake pedal, the brake control isn’t getting the signal. The manual slide on the brake control works great. I thought the issue was with the brake light switch so I replaced it. Same issue. The brake lights on the truck and trailer DO work as expected. Using a probe, I am not seeing any power coming into the brake control on the red wire when the brake pedal is pressed. The black wire is always hot. The blue wire is hot when the manual slide is engaged. Do you have any ideas to help me track down why the red wire isn’t getting power from the brake switch?

You have done excellent troubleshooting on the issue with your Voyager # 39510 brake controller not receiving the brake light signal on its red trigger wire. Since you have replaced the brake light switch and confirmed the truck brake lights work this tells us the issue is between the red wire connection and the controller itself.
If you are using the quick-connect wiring adapter # 3023-P to connect the controller to the port under your dash you can check the contacts for the red wire on both ends of the adapter. Make sure the contacts are clean and are not bent in such a way that they fail to make a good physical connection with the contacts on the mating connectors. The issue could be as simple as a contact that simply does not apply enough pressure to make the brake light switch connection.
If your Voyager was hardwired you can try replacing the entire wire between the brake light switch and the Voyager.
