Should I Add Electric Brakes To My Trailer
Question:
I have a 1992 Sunline saturn M-1550 trailer and am pulling it with a 2013 Toyota Tacoma v-6 with towing package. The weight of the trailer is 2000 lbs. Do I need electric brakes or any other special equipment?

Expert Reply:
Trailer brakes are normally not required if the trailer does not exceed 40% of the towing vehicle weight, however the laws vary by state so it is a good idea to find out your state's laws on trailer towing. I have attached a link that shows you all of the parts needed to add electric brakes to a trailer.
You may also want to check your vehicle's owner's manual because some manufacturers require the trailer to have brakes if you tow it.
