Should Trailer Tire be Inflated to Max Cold PSI Rating if Wheel Has Same PSI Rating

Question:

Is the max pressure on the rim a cold tire pressure like the tires or is it just the max? The reason I ask is I have rims with 110max on them and are running G rated tires that have max of 110 also. If I run 110 cold in the tire they will usually increase another 10 pounds from heat. Should I run 95 psi to keep max psi under 110? Thanks

Expert Reply:

The max pressure rating for both the wheel and tire is the cold rating. If you have 110 as the max for the tire and the wheel you'd want to inflate the tire to 110 when cold and you'd be fine. Also, it most likely is your valve stem that has the 110 psi rating which could be swapped out to a higher rating.
