Which Swivel Jack for Trailer with 2980 GVWR

Question:

Im looking to buy a trailer, which comes without any type of jack. Id appreciate knowing which jack capacity to buy. The trailer GVWR is 2,980. Hitch to top of ball is 16, platform height is 18inch Any advise would be much appreciated.

You will want to choose a trailer jack that either meets or exceeds the tongue weight of your trailer. Typically, the tongue weight is calculated as 10 to 15 percent of the weight of the fully loaded trailer. Given the 2980 lb figure you provided, you would need a jack with a minimum capacity of 500 lbs.

The Pro Series Swivel Jack you referenced, part # PS1401610383 would certainly work for you, but the 3000 lb lift capacity would be overkill, as you are only needing to support the trailer tongue weight, not the entire weight of the trailer.

The Pipe Mount Swivel Style Trailer Jack with Foot - Sidewind - 10" Travel - 2,000 lbs. # DL22685 would be a good choice.

I have included a link to our Trailer Jack FAQ page, which contains additional information you might find helpful. I have also linked you to our selection of swivel jacks available in both bolt and weld-on applications.
