Recommended Safety Chains To Use with Curt Ball and Safety Chain Loops Kit for a 2018 Ram 3500
Question:
We just purchased a 2018 Dodge Ram 3500. It has the Curt ball set up with the wide spaced chain clips. The chains on our horse trailer are not long enough to reach the clips. I found how to measure for that, but I do not know which weight rating I should get. Can you help? I see the weight ratings on chains all over the place, just want to be sure and get the right ones!

The total weight capacity of the safety chains for your trailer must exceed its loaded gross weight. Most likely the chains will be rated much higher than the loaded gross weight and this is perfectly fine. That said, the safety chain loops on the Curt Ball and Safety Chain Loops Kit part # C60618 are rather beefy so you will need a good size hook to be able to clamp over it. For this, I recommend the Fulton Safety Chain with 1/2" Clevis Hook part # FCHA0070324 as we have test fit these with the above safety chain loops and confirmed that they work.
Please note it is not advised to simply extend the safety chains that you have now therefore you will want to replace both safety chains on the trailer. The above is only for one chain so you will need to order a quantity of two.
