Solution for Brake Controller that Shows Error Codes on Dash When Manual Lever is Slid
Question:
I installed the hopkins impulse brake controller in to my 2015 dodge journey, the issue Im having is when I push the brake override button on the controller it set off the engin and traction control light. On the brake pedal there is a 3 wire plug and I tested it and found the wire that only lights up when the peddle is pushed. I was woudering what your thoughts are on this.

So when your brake controller has it's manual override lever slid it actually also puts 12 volts onto the stoplight circuit wire (red) for the purpose of applying the brake lights of the trailer and vehicle. Your vehicle does not like this so it's showing you an error code on the dash since it's not sure how to interpret this signal. Most likely what you will need to do is keep testing the wires at the brake pedal till you find another circuit that only sees 12 volts when the brakes are applied and use it.
Or you can install a one-way diode on the red wire circuit currently which will stop the circuit from allowing your brake controller to backfeed when the lever is slid with the part # RM-690.
