Solution for Magnetic Towing Lights on Ford Edge that Keep Falling Off
Question:
You had an expert state that you cannot flat tow a front wheel drive 2018 Ford Edge and he is completely incorrect. You can flat tow this vehicle if it has the V6 engine. Because there isnt a plug in converter for the lights one of your experts recommended the wireless magnetic brake lights. I have used the magnetic wired lights for my vehicle and every time I tow I lose the lights because the magnets are not strong enough. The lights you suggest are about $120. I am concerned that the magnets will not be strong enough and I will lose them too. What kind of warranty or guarantee do I have that I will not just be tossing $120 down the drain for these magnetic lights? Thanks!

I did see in the online version of the owner's manual for your 2018 Ford Edge that the front wheel drive model with the V6 engine can indeed be flat towed with all 4 wheels on the ground. When answering questions like this we always consult with the vehicle's owner's manual so it's likely that since the vehicle's release the manual has been updated to separate out the different engine types with regards to recreational towing.
The Hopkins Magnetic Tow Lights # C6304 that you referenced is a really nice set that does feature heavy-duty magnets that will securely attach to the vehicle. We have not had any customer feedback at all with regards to these lights falling off during travel so I don't foresee that being an issue.
With that being said since it sounds like you tow the Edge relatively often I do recommend considering a wiring kit that taps into the tail light circuits of the vehicle itself, for which the Roadmaster Diode Kit # RM-15267 will work perfectly. After the initial installation this is going to require a much easier setup when it's time to tow and then transition back to every day driving since it only requires a plug-in connection between the RV and vehicle. This will also prevent those anxious moments on the road when you look back to see if the lights are still attached to the roof.
I have attached a short video review along with the installation instructions that you can check out as well.
