Recommended Bike Carrier for a 2010 Toyota RAV4 with Rear Spare Tire
Question:
We have a 2010 RAV4 with covered external spare tire and side opening rear hatch. We have a 2inch trailer hitch for towing already installed. Could you recommend a two bike carrier that will work with the external spare tire configuration? We are not concerned with opening the rear hatch when the carrier is on the car. We have been looking at the Thule Apex 2. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Expert Reply:
The Thule Apex XT 2 Bike Rack part # TH9024XT most likely won't work on your 2010 Toyota RAV4 due to the rear spare tire but the Lets Go Aero NEO2 2-Bike Rack # B01748 should as it offers much more clearance. If you really wanted to be certain you would just need to make sure the distance from your hitch pin hole to the outside edge of the spare tire is no more than 12" but the trailer hitch receivers we have available for the RAV4 will allow room for the NEO2 so yours should too as well.
