How To Determine Correct Dexter Replacement Axle With Electric Brakes

Question:

I have a dexter 3K7744 axle without brake flanges under my aluminum trailer. Id like to replace the axle with a new assembly that includes electric brakes, but my internet search for a direct swap has been unsuccessful. Im hoping you have some recommendations.

There are options for you, one of which will require you to measure while the other does not, but I was unable to find any type of reference to a Dexter 3K7744 axle. So to replace your current axle with one that has electric brakes you will need to know the dimensions of your current axle's hub face to hub face and spring center to spring center as in the diagram I have added; the other thing you need to know is the weight capacity of the axle you need, which should match or exceed the GVWR of your trailer.

For example the Dexter Trailer Axle w/ Electric Brakes # 7359765-EB has a 3,500 lb capacity and measures 95 inches from hub face to hub face and 80 inches from spring center to spring center while the Dexter Trailer Axle w/ Electric Brakes # 8327864-EB has an 8,000 lb capacity and measures 94 inches from hub face to hub face and 79 inches from spring center to spring center.

You do have another option, the Timbren Axle-Less Suspension System, which are simply bolted or welded so you do not have to worry about finding an axle that meets any specific measurements. Like a traditional thru-axle, there are options from Timbren that come with electric brakes, such as the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System w Electric Brake Hubs # A35RS545E which is rated for 3,500 lbs.

I added links to video reviews of these parts as well as a link to our entire selection of axles that have electric brakes.
