You've asked a really great question, as the Demco Hijacker Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch ( # DM8550035 along with the Adapter Plate # DM6099 if your Ram has the factory pucks or # DM8550035 with Installation Rails # DM8552025-71 if it doesn't) and the B&W Companion ( # BWRVK3670 if you have the factory pucks or # BWRVK3400-5W with the Under-Bed Mount Kit # BWGNRK1384-5W if you don't) represent the 2 best options available for your 2018 Ram 2500 Short Bed.

Between the two I give a slight edge to the Hijacker because of the added convenience it provides with its automatic slider that lets you stay in the comfort of your cab when making tight turns. This is one of those features that you will grow to appreciate more and more with each trip. The Hijacker also provides more slider travel (14 inches compared to 12 inches on the Companion) which is going to let you make sharper turns without worrying about cab interference.
