How to Set the Power to the Right Level on a Factory Brake Controller in a 2011 Dodge Ram
Question:
My truck is a 2011 Ram 1500 4X4 with a pre-installed brake control to the left of the steering column. How do I correctly set the brake control to the level I need to safely haul a trailer? Thank you

On brake controllers, you will want to adjust the controller so that it applies the trailer brakes just below a point that would lock up the trailer brakes. What you will do is go to a flat, open area with the trailer. Tow the trailer at about 20 to 25 miles per hour and apply the manual override.
If the trailer brakes lock up, adjust the power down. If they do not lock up then increase the power. Repeat as needed until you have it set to a point just below wheel lock up.
Make sure to consult the owners manual for your 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 for how to adjust the power up and down on the factory controller and for other information on using the factory unit.
