Recommend Flat Towing Components for 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk

Question:

Need a parts list for required equipment to flat tow a Jeep 2019 Trailhawk. This would include the Base plate, Tow bar, Braking system, and wiring system. Also would like a rock guard to protect the Trailhawk vehicle and windshield while being towed. Please provide the full list of compatible components, in that I dont want to start installing and find out that I still require some piece or part. Also, please, Include any accessory I may have overlooked. This is all new to me. So far, leaning towards the Demco Tabless Baseplate. Looking for products that, once installed, will require the minimum amount of effort to engage the flat tow. Convenience, safety & reliability are the first concerns.

I do have an option for you but the Demco Tabless base plate kit # DM9519340 does not have a compatible rock guard at this time. I recommend Roadmaster Crossbar-style base plate kit part # RM-521451-4 with the Roadmaster All Terrain tow bar part # RM-522. You will also need safety cables part # RM-645.

For a rock guard you can use Roadmaster Guardian Rock Guard # RM-4000 which mounts on the tow bar or you can use a hitch-mount adjustable mud flap system like Rock Tamers # ERT00108 which can be used for other applications other than with the tow bar if you envision ever needing to use them independently of the flat towing setup.

Braking systems come in two basic flavors: harder to install but you do it only once, and easier to install and you do it every time you tow. If the motorhome has air brakes I recommend the SMI Air Force One # SM99243 for the one-time install option, but if you want a less invasive install then use the Roadmaster BrakeMaster # RM-9160 along with Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751471 and Seat Adapter # RM-88307.

If the motorhome has hydraulic brakes then I suggest you go with the portable Patriot system # BRK2019 which is a non-invasive "every time" portable braking system that does not require extensive mods to the Jeep and that allows you to move it to another vehicle when that time comes. It works with active power assist braking systems and it is my preferred flat towing brake setup.

For a wiring/lighting setup you again have a choice of a one-time more complex install with diode kit # RM-15267 or an easy repeat-install magnetic light kit like # TL21RK. Magnetic lights are cost-effective, simple to install and easily replaced if they should ever malfunction; and again there is no cutting into the new vehicle's wiring. If it were my new vehicle I would go with magnetic lights, but that is a personal preference.

Please check out the linked article for a helpful overview of each item in your flat tow setup.
