Converting Triple Axle Trailer From Slipper Springs to Double Eye Springs

Question:

We currently have a typical slipper spring triple dexter 7k axle set up under our cargo trailer. We are considering converting to a double eye set up with cushioned equalizers. What is your recommendation for doing so, and will the original hangers have to be cut off and replaced? Or will they work as is...

You will need to weld on new spring hangers to convert your triple axle trailer from slipper springs to double-eye leaf springs. The linked page shows you all hangers. Select hangers of the same height as the current ones to keep the trailer's stance as it is now or taller ones if you want to raise its height.

For selecting cushioned equalizers you will want to match the hole spacing dimensions to your current equalizers. Please refer to the linked page showing cushioned triple-axle kits like Dexter # K71-657-00 which has spring mounting hole spacing of 7-3/4-inches and the Lippert Equa-Flex # LC279689 which has 7-1/2-inch hole spacing. For 7K leaf springs we offer the 24-7/8-inch spring # e64SR. You'll also need U-bolt mounting kits like # CE23003 to secure the 3-inch axles to the springs.

You can refer to the linked article on double-eye suspensions for more details on the parts needed. Double-eye suspensions generally give a smoother ride but they do have more moving parts to maintain.
