Replacement Round Spring Bars for Fastway e2 WD System with 3,500 Pound Trailer

Question:

I have an E2 WD hitch that was set up for a trailer with a GVWR of 5700 LBS. I was thinking of replacing the spring bars and using this hitch on my new Aliner Expedition camper with a GVWR 3500 LBS, Dry hitch weight 240 LBS, Total weight 1850 LBS. I am pulling it with a Titan XD, but I still feel a little sway when semis buzzes by especially in high wind. Would the 600 pound bars be too stiff on the Expedition?

Replacing the higher-rated round spring bars on your Fastway e2 Weight Distribution System with the 600 pound # FA94-02-0699 that you referenced is a great idea to better match the lower weight of your new camper. These spring bars have a tongue weight capacity range of 400 to 600 pounds. With a 3,500 pound GVWR you are looking at a loaded tongue weight of around 350 to 525 pounds. Also keep in mind that any added cargo weight coming from behind the truck's rear axle will count towards your total tongue weight as well.

It's technically possible (albeit unlikely) that the bars will end up being just a tad over-rated for your setup but it would be by a very small amount that wouldn't negatively affect your ride at all. You don't typically have to worry about a WD system causing a rougher ride unless it's over-rated by a large amount.

The 600 pound bars will work perfectly for your new setup.

Please also note that while a properly rated weight distribution system like this one will do a great job of reducing and quickly stopping sway on the road, there's really nothing available that will completely eliminate sway caused by passing semi trucks or high cross winds.
