Recommend Replacement Spare Trailer Wheel and Tire For Utility Trailer w/ 185/75R14 Tires
Question:
I have a home made utility trailer that has 185/75R14 tires on the wheels. I want a spare mounted wheel for a long distance trip 750 mi.. By the way, the present tires have some tread, but are not very new. The wheel is a 5 hole wheel. Can you help me order the right mounted wheel?

The closest replacement tire size we have for your existing 185/75R14 tire is going to be a 205/75-14, like the Kenda Tire and Wheel # AM3S440. You would need to measure on your trailer to see if you will have room to mount this tire. The overall diameter of this size tire is 26.3 inches, and the width is 7.8 inches. The load capacity of the # AM3S440 is 1,760 lbs at 50 PSI.
Using the different-sized spare for emergency would be acceptable to get where you are going, in an emergency situation. But then, you would want to replace the bad tire in a pair on the same axle. At that, point, you would then want to order another # AM3S440.
You will want to check the existing tires on your trailer to make sure the size includes an ST stamping. The letters ST should be in front of the tire size. The letters ST indicate Special Trailer tire, as trailer tires are constructed to handle heavy loads (see FAQ).
I have linked an FAQ on trailer tires and tire sizing and an FAQ on common tire and wheel questions.
