Why Does Stainless Steel BoatBuckle Tie-Downs Have Lower Break Strength Than Standard Steel Model
Question:
why does the stainless version of the BoatBuckle G2 have a 500lb WLL while the cheaper non stainless version has a 833lb WLL?

I spoke with my contact at BoatBuckle regarding the difference in break strength between the G2 Ratchet Tie-Downs in Stainless Steel # IMF14256 and the Standard # IMF08893.
He said the main reason the stainless steel model has a lower break strength of 500 pounds (compared to 833 pounds on the standard steel model) is that stainless steel is just a softer metal. This means that it's breaking point is going to come at a lower weight than a stronger standard steel design.
The benefits though for a stainless steel option especially for a boat trailer application is that you won't have to worry about any rust or corrosion over time, as it is naturally resistant wearing down in this fashion.
I have attached a couple short video demonstrations on these kits that you can check out as well.
