Correct 4-Way Trailer Wiring For My 2012 Ford Escape
Question:
I tried this part for my 2012 Escape. The capped plug behind my bumper is much wider more rectangular and this part did not fit. Is there a new part# for the 2012s?

Lets start by making sure you are looking at the right connector. The connector is located between the rear bumper and the rear of the drivers side frame member, as you can see in the photo I have provided. The connector has a protective cover, which is actually pinned to the vehicle as shown in the photo.
The connector will only be active if your Escape is equipped with the factory tow prep package.
If you are unsure if your Escape has the prep package, you can call your Ford dealer, and with your VIN, they should be able to tell you how it is equipped.
If you do not have the tow package, the 118251 will not work, and you will need to use the # 118551.
