How to Adapt CE Smith Trailer Axle Kit CE33201GA-HUB for 55-1/2-Inch Spring Spacing
Question:
Do you have an 1-1/2inch axel/hub kit similar to# CE33201GA-HUB with 55-1/2inch Spring center and 65-1/2inch Hub Face? Hubs are 5 x 4-1/2

Expert Reply:
We do not have axle kits with a 55-1/2-inch spring center spacing but you can still use an axle like # CE33201GA-HUB so long as it is rated properly for your application simply by having two steel spacers like # 01077-011 welded at the appropriate positions on the axle tube. You may just need to enlarge the holes to match the size of the nuts on the spring stacks before you have them welded on.
It is not a good idea to drill new holes in the axle as this could reduce its capacity. This axle kit has a hub face spacing of 57-1/2-inches, not the 65-1/2-inch spacing you asked about.
The nearest axle hub face sizes are 60-inch as with # 20545I-EZ-60-10 and 72-inch as with # 20545I-EZ-72-10.
If you want to completely eliminate the leaf spring suspension for better ground clearance Timbren offers axle-less suspension kits like the 2K-rated # A20RS545 which also includes idler hubs.
