Troubleshooting Water Intrusion Between Gravity Fill Mount and Inner Fitting
Question:
Im curious, My friend got water intrusion between the outside section and the inside connector that twists in place. Do the instructions require using that putty in the area between those two pieces or to caulk in between those. My RV has the same inlet and there is definitely a slight looseness between those two parts and I can certainly see how sideways rain could enter between the two. Others, in forums, have found water getting past those two parts as well. Im just curious if there is any mention of sealing between those two parts during installation in the instructions?

The Valterra Water Inlet for RVs - White - Gravity Fill # A01-2003VP comes with a putty tape to ensure you don't have water intrusion at the mounting holes and flange. It sounds like you are having issue with the inner bayonetted fitting. The manufacturer does not mention any sealing between these parts, but I can see how that could be an issue.
I'd use the silicone gasket maker # LT37467 to secure that if it were me. Then you still have the ability to remove that inner unit and reseal it without causing a mess or needing to clean it every time. I've attached a video to assist.
