Fifth Wheel Hitch Recommendation for 2016 GMC Sierra 2500 with Reese Elite Rail Kit
Question:
I own a 2016 GMC 2500HD crew cab gas with the 6 1/2 foot bed w/o the OEM prep package. I recently purchased the Reese RP30868 under bed rails with the expectation of purchasing the Reese RP30144 fifth wheel sliding hitch. After reading some reviews Im wondering if the Demco Hijacker autoslide DM8550034 would be a better option. Ive read a review from Tommy C. that I can still use the Reese under bed rails with Demco hitch designed for Ford which will match the Reese puck system for my GMC. If thats true, what model Demco autoslide would match my 2016 set up? Also, what are the pros and cons for each hitch if I am unable to be in a straight line when hooking up to the trailer? Lastly, if the trailer I am purchasing uses a custom turning pin box how does that affect my choices? Thank you.

The Demco Hijacker Autoslide could be used with the Elite rail kit part # RP30868 that you have for your 2016 GMC Sierra 2500 but since you need to be able to hitch up to your trailer at an angle this hitch will not work well for you as it requires you to be almost totally straight to connect.
The really great news though is that if your trailer has a pin box installed on it that pivots or turns you don't need a slider hitch as the pin box will give you the needed clearance to make the tight turns.
So you could use the fixed Companion Hitch for Ford Rail kits part # BWRVK3300 in the rail kit you have with the wedge part # SWW-06 and you'd have basically the best towing setup around. Nearly all RVers consider the Companion hitches to be the best on the market based on how easy they are to use, how reliable they are, and how tight they hold the trailer king pin which provides a very quiet and smooth ride quality.
