Installing Tekonsha Prodigy P2 on 2014 Chevy Traverse with Harness Already Connected to Factory Plug

Question:

Looking to buy Tekonsha Prodigy 2 controller with adapter, 90885-3026-P Under the dash access panel found the grey 6 pin plug as you show. It already has a connector plugged into it though, with the appropriately colored wires exiting it. Do these wires just dead end? Haven’t traced them as this is a project on my daughters vehicle 100 miles away. Can I simply unplug it and plug in your adapter harness? The vehicle is towing ready from factory and I’ve already installed the 7 pin pigtail connector simply plugging it in to the already present electrical connector under the passenger rear fender, and installing your provided relays. I have sent a pic. Thanks

It looks to me like a previous owner may have installed a trailer brake controller on your daughter's 2014 Chevy Traverse, as the plug looks identical to the factory end of the Plug-In Adapter # 3026-P that is needed to install the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller # 90885 that you referenced. The previous owner likely took the controller but left the plug.

You have a couple of options. You can try and trace the wiring from that plug to see where they lead. If it is indeed a Plug-In Adapter then the wires shouldn't go too far and likely just lead to the plug end that would go to the brake controller itself. This may eliminate the need to purchase the part # 3026-P.

If you don't feel like doing this though then you could certainly just unplug it and plug the 3026-P in for installation of the Prodigy P2. There's not going to be any power on that existing plug once it's removed from the factory port so other than an inconvenient/unnecessary plug hanging behind the dash there's no harm in going this route either.
