2015 chevy colorado, so when the disconnect is installed,the key needs to be in the ignition so steering can operate does this discoonect stop elec when key is engaged so that nothing would be on except the brake system

The Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect with Switch # RM-766 that you referenced is designed for applications like you mentioned. It will disconnect the vehicle battery so that you can leave the key in the on position so that the wheel can turn and the electrics of the vehicle are disconnected. This allows the battery of the vehicle to not drain. If you have a supplemental braking system that draws power from a 12 volt cigarette lighter style outlet you'd need to install the # RM-9332 which you'd wire directly to the vehicle battery for that.
