Installing SMI Supplemental Braking System on 2015 Jeep Wrangler with Mopar Harness
Question:
I have a 2015 Jeep Wrangler. I have added the MOPAR OEM wiring harness so that my RV activates my Jeep brake and turn signal lights. I currently use a Brake Buddy. Im thinking of moving to a Roadmaster Invisibrake or an SMI AF One permanent brake systems. Question: Will I need to pigtails going from the RV to the Jeep for wiring? I have the one installed, but how will I wire up the new brake system to my existing trailer plug that is a MOPAR plug? Thanks,

For your 2015 Jeep Wrangler I recommend going with either the SMI Air Force One Supplemental Braking System # SM99243 if your RV has air brakes or the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO # SM99251 if it has hydraulic brakes. If you tow the Jeep somewhat often going with a permanent system like either of these options is a great idea.
As for what you will need to do with regards to your existing OEM harness it depends a bit on which of the two above mentioned systems you need.
With the Air Force One # SM99243 you won't need to tie into the OEM harness or add anything to it. The only real connection you will make in the Jeep is connecting to the cold side of the brake switch, which your Brake Buddy is likely already connected to. You will just cut off the connection you have with the Brake Buddy and splice into the bare wire with the Air Force One breakaway kit. Otherwise the system ties into the air brakes on the RV to activate the unit and the Jeep's brakes.
On the Stay-IN-Play DUO # SM99251 you will just need to tap into the brake signal wires on the OEM harness to get the brake signal for the system. You still won't be required to add additional wiring from the RV to the Jeep though. For the monitoring system you will again also need to splice into the brake switch like with the Air Force One.
I have attached an installation video for each of these systems along with the written installation instructions that you can check out as well.
