Question:
So if I but the 4 to 7 pin adapter, I dont need to use the black, blue, or yellow wires at all?

The 4-way to 7-way adapter for trailer brakes does have a couple of wires that need to be connected in addition to the 4-way plug. You will need to connect the Black 12 volt power wire to a circuit breaker and then your positive battery terminal and then the ground with ring terminal needs to be connected to your vehicle frame metal to metal. You do not need to connect the reverse light wire (yellow or purple) or the brake controller output wire (blue). If you don't already have the connector, I recommend using the 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 12 Gauge Wires # ETBC7L. This kit will give you everything you need for the Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller - Wireless - 1 to 2 Axles - Proportional # C51180. I've attached some videos to assist.
