The Curt Echo Trailer Brake Controller # C51180 referenced in your question is really a universal product that just needs a 7-Way connector with an active 12V pin on the tow vehicle for perfect operation. As long as your 2009 Ford F-150 is equipped with a 7-Way and that 12V circuit is active this brake controller will work great.
I really like this controller because of how simple it is to install and use. After plugging the unit into the 7-Way on your truck you simply need to pair it to your smartphone via Bluetooth after downloading the free app and you are all set. Its built-in accelerometer will power the trailer brakes at the same time and with the same intensity that you apply to them in your F-150 and you can view settings, make adjustments, or activate the manual override from your phone.
One thing you might want to add with this particular unit if you don't have one already is a dash mounted phone bracket like # RVS-CEL-M1.
