For your 2006 Ford F-150 4x4, I recommend using the Prodigy P3 brake controller # 90195. This controller is easy to use for multiple trailers with an easily selected boost level and you can even store the different settings in the controller to pull up easily as needed. This will help you with diagnostics as well. You will simply use the wiring harness # 3035-P to connect this under your dash. I've attached a video to assist.
If you have the factory 7-way there is nothing further needed. If you have the factory 4 way, then I recommend using the # ETBC7 wiring kit to connect to the 12V power and brake output wires found at the driver's side frame near the wheel well. Then you will have the wiring needed as well as the 7-way adapter.
