Troubleshooting Stromberg Carlson Electric Trailer Jack # Jet-3555
Question:
Hi there. I have bought 2 stromberg Carlson jet-3555 for you guys I’ve the past year. The first I installed and the jack is great. It is quick and have no issues. The second one I bought with past few months and installed the same way as the first, both working off new 2- 6v deep cycle batteries. However from the start this second unit appears to have no speed or power. It lags considerably more than the first jack I bought. I should have addressed this right away but thought I would just “deal with it”. However the constant frustration with it has led me to finally seek you guys for support. Any trouble shooting you can provide? Could it be a defective jack? Not sure how to best Andre this. Thanks in advance.

The first thing I recommend is checking the ground connection as this jack is grounded through the mounting plate. Sometimes removing some paint and/or using a star washer is a good option to make sure there is metal to metal contact for proper power. Next, I recommend making sure your ground from your batteries to the trailer frame is bare metal to metal and free of corrosion, debris, and even paint.
Next, check the power coming into your jack using a multimeter like # PT89ZR to ensure you are getting 12V and 30 amps draw when using the jack under load. If you are getting 12V and up to 30 amps and have a good ground then the issue is in the jack. If however you are not getting 12V power, then you will want to check your wiring to your battery to make sure it is the proper gauge wire for the length of run, that there isn't a short between the battery and the jack, and that the 6V batteries are connected in series so you will get the 12V output.
If there is a significant difference in the tongue weight of the trailers, that may account for one running slower. You can test it by running the jack when not under load.
