Comparing the ZCI Wiring Harness 119250KIT and the Modulite Harness 119177KIT on a BMW X5
Question:
How is this different

The difference between the Modulite Power Converter 5-Way Flat part # 119177KIT and the ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 119250KIT is that the ZCI kit has clamp on sensors that receive signal from the tail light wires without actually splicing into them whereas the Modulite kit will need to physically splice into the wires in order to receive a signal from the tail lights. The ZCI kit also has a 4-way trailer connector and the Modulite has a 5-way trailer connector. However, if you wanted to use the ZCI kit and needed a 5-way then you could add the Tow Ready 4 Pole to 5 Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter part # 20036.
Since you have a newer 2018 BMW X5 I recommend the ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness as this would ensure you do not void any warranties. I have attached a sample install video for you as well.
