Can the Factory Trailer Connector Bracket be Used on a Jeep JL Wrangler Unlimited with Curt Hitch
Question:
Hi, I have a factory installed tow package on my new 2018 JL Wrangler, however, the hitch is only a class II with a 2inch opening. I want a more sturdy hitch as the original Jeep part is thinner and less robust than say the Curt hitch. I am finding that after market hitches such as the Curt 13392 hitch do not fit with the factory installed 7/4 pin wiring harness. Im trying to find out if this one might work without having to go to alot if trouble to relocate the 7 pin harness. Im not even sure at this point how or if it can be moved and others have said it looks bad after moving it. Thanks

I took a look at how the factory trailer connector is installed on a 2018 Jeep JL Wrangler Unlimited and I don't see any reason as to why it cannot still be reused with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13392. The shape of the hitch in regards to where the trailer connector mounting bracket attaches doesn't appear to be much different and they both install in the same set of holes.
However, we have not yet had the chance to replace the factory trailer hitch on a 2018 Jeep JL Wrangler Unlimited so I cannot offer exact advice on how the two will work together but everything I am seeing does not lead me to believe there would be a problem. If for some reason the new trailer hitch interferes with the factory trailer connector mounting bracket then all you would need is the Mounting Bracket for 7- and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Socket part # HM40978 which would most likely require you to drill two small holes but the look will be pretty much the same as the factory.
