Trailer Tire Pressure Increase on Monitoring System When Traveling
Question:
Hello I have Westlake 235- 80-. R16 G rated tires on my LQ horse trailer. They call for 115 psi cold. Which I always put in.I have a tire monitor system. After running for several hours at recommend speed the pressure will increase up to 125 to 128 psi Is this normal? How much pressure can I go to before I will have problem? Thanks

Expert Reply:
It is normal for your trailer tire PSI to increase with ambient temperature changes and the temperature increase from contact with the road (friction). Most systems like the tire pressure monitor # TPMS-APP-4 will alert you if there is an increase of 20% or more from the baseline pressure.
For your 115 psi baseline, you should pull over and check your tires if you get to 138 psi in any tire. A fluctuation of 9-12 percent like you are experiencing is normal after traveling several hours.
