Can 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 5-1/2 foot Bed Tow Gooseneck Trailer

Question:

I have a 2018 GMC Sierra crew cab with 9300 lbs towing capacity. I am looking at a 4star 14 foot gooseneck with a tapered nose. If I have an extension 4” to 9”, can I pull safely making turns? Which extension do you recommend ? Or is a bumper pull the best option ?

For a truck like your 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 that has a 5-1/2 foot bed it's typically not recommended to try and tow a gooseneck or fifth wheel hitch trailer. Unless the nose is tapered like a stock trailer where there's essentially no nose you'll have turning clearance issues. If the nose is tapered like that we have the Curt gooseneck hitch part # C615-632 as a confirmed fit which will work well. This hitch gives you a setup where you can flip the ball upside down when not needed and is very easy to use. Curt has a 4 inch offset ball too part # C602 which will help as well.

If the nose of the trailer has any width to it though I'd recommend you either find a gooseneck trailer that has a nose that's narrower or go the bumper pull route.
