It may be possible to transport your 120 pound scooter using a hitch-mounted carrier on your 2018 Hyundai Elantra SE.
The Curt # C11424 is a confirmed fit four your Elantra Sedan as long as it is not the sport model. This is a Class I model hitch with a tongue weight capacity of 200 pounds.
With the hitch in place, it is time to select a carrier that will safely secure your scooter. Since both the weight of the scooter and the carrier itself will contribute to the tongue weight, it is important to select one that is light enough to keep the combined weight under the hitch's 200 pound limit.
Depending on the physical size of your scooter the Curt Cargo Carrier # C18145 may be a good option. This is the largest carrier we have available that is compatible with a Class I hitch and it weighs in at only around 29 pounds. This will give you a combined weight between the scooter and carrier of around 149 pounds. The carrier measures 48 inches long and 20 inches wide.
I have attached a short video demonstration that you can check out as well.
I do also recommend verifying the tongue weight capacity of the vehicle itself for your Hyundai Elantra. I was unable to locate any specific limits in the online version of the owner's manual, but you can check with a local Hyundai dealer to make sure the vehicle can handle the weight of the carrier and scooter.
You will also need the stabilizer strap # 18050 which is required by Curt.
