30 Amp Trailer Compatibility with 50 Amp Extension Cord
Question:
I am purchasing a new trailer that is 30 amp. My current trailer is 50 amp and I use a 50Ft extension cord to reach my outlet. Can I still use the 50ft cord plugged into the outlet and just get a conversion plug from 30 to 50 or will I need a whole new set up.

You can still use your 50 amp extension cord to the outlet and just use an adapter like the Mighty Cord RV Power Cord Adapter Plug - 30 Amp Female to 50 Amp Male - Round # A10-5030AVP. You will still need a 30 amp cable like the Mighty Cord RV Power Cord with Handle - 30 Amp Male to Twist Lock Female Connector - 25' Long # A10-3025ED90 or if you have the retractable hardwired cable then you just use the adapter to utilize your extension cord.
You may want to consider the a circuit defender like # CAM55312 to protect against a one time surge or the Camco RV Power Defender Voltage Protector - 30 Amp # CAM55301 to automatically disconnect and reconnect as needed to protect your 30 amp system.
