Recommended LED Spot Beam Light for 2006 Ford Explorer for Spotting Wildlife at Long Distances

Question:

I’m looking for a pair of driving lights that I can put on a vehicle I will not be taking off-road. I live in Iowa and we’re getting towards the end of rut but not the end of critters running out in front of my nice Eddie Bauer Explorer. I don’t want to spend a fortune on these 2 lights but as I look at lights, there does not seem to be a standard by which I can compare them to see which light will best fill the bill. Some lights are advertised as work/fog/driving lights. I already made the mistake of putting work lights on when what I needed were driving lights. I would spend around $100 per light for either a pencil beam or driving beam. I will put a relay in the circuit so LED or halogen will work. I do not want something that rusts and ends up looking crappy. But I would love something I could aim right down my lane and see 1000’ or so.

For your lighting application that requires a focused beam that can reach a substantial distance down the road in front of you to help spot wildlife I suggest the Putco Luminix Off-Road LED Light Bar # P10006 which features a narrow 15-degree focused beam. Unlike work lights that are intended to disperse their output at closer distances, this 1200-lumen spot beam LED light will push the focal point well out in front of you.

This kit includes a wiring harness and power switch as well as two sets of mounting brackets. I linked review and demo videos to give you a sense of the installation and functionality of this high-efficiency LED light that is USA-made.

For your application I recommend mounting the light on your front bumper. This will both allow for more convenient access to your battery for connection and it will place the light at a height where it will be likely to best illuminate the critters you're looking to avoid.
