Comparing the Draw-Tite and Curt Trialer Hitches for a 2015 Audi Q7
Question:
My Audi didnt come with factory hitch so I am looking to get one installed I notice that on other post you recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2inch . That has a max 6000 lbs GTW. I also notice that the Drawtite Class III max frame receiver had a 7700 lbs GTW. Why do you recommend the Curt? Also what wiring kits do you recommend

Aside from the weight ratings of the Draw-Tite # 75950 and Curt # 13220 trailer hitches that fit your 2015 Audi Q7, the Draw-Tite has safety chains loops located directly below the receiver and a welded wiring connector mount while the Curt has safety chain loops that sit to the sides of the receiver and has no mount for a wiring connector.
Since both of these trailer hitches exceed the max weight ratings of your Q7 (see page 239 of your owner's manual) the only real advantage that the Draw-Tite has over the Curt is that mount. We do have brackets that will hold wiring connectors but as the trailer hitches install so that just the receiver is showing the Draw-Tite will have a cleaner look.
Since you don't have a trailer connector I recommend installing the Tekonsha ZCI # 119250KIT. This gives you an alternative to splicing wires into your OEM wiring as the connectors on this kit clamp onto your wiring. The 12V power wire that is run to your battery and the modulite unit keep the wiring on your Q7 from being affected by your trailer lighting if there is an issue.
To connect this 4-Way Flat connector to your Draw-Tite trailer hitch you just need the mounting bracket # 18144. If you decide to go with the Curt trailer hitch then you will need the mounting bracket # C58001 instead.
To complete your towing setup you also need a ball mount, hitch ball, and pin & clip. All of this can be found in the Curt Ball Mount Kit # C45036 but you need to consult the linked ball mount article to ensure that the 2" drop is correct for your towing application.
