Troubleshooting Low Propane Pressure to Grill

Question:

I have a travel trailer with an outdoor stove. I’ve purchased a gas hose from my quick disconnect to my Coleman gas grill. I get gas to grill , but not enough to cook on. I’m tuning thru camper regulator then the grill regulator. This combination reduces gas flow to almost nothing. How can I get around this issue? Thanks

Expert Reply:

Propane cannot be over-regulated so assuming both regulators are rated the same the output will be the same. It sounds like you may have a leak that is causing you not to get the appropriate amount of pressure to your grill or potentially a faulty regulator. Sometimes propane hoses can get clogged as well but since you mentioned you have a new hose we can likely rule that out.

What I recommend is using the Camco Propane Cylinder Gas Gauge and Leak Detector # CAM59023 which will tell you if you have a leak that is causing the flow to be reduced.

I have added a link to a video review of this detector as well as links to a pair of help articles on propane which you may find useful.

I just purchased a new two-stage propane gas regulator with pigtails. do I need to use yellow Teflon tape or can I use the white Teflon tape for my connections??

You will want to use yellow teflon tape for any gas fittings. It is going to be thicker than white teflon tape to make a good seal when connecting gas lines. We have some available under part # 37207-30025.
