Deka Battery Isolator # DW08770 Recommendation for Charging Van Camper Second Battery

Question:

I am doing a Transit Van camper conversion. I want to charge my house battery from the starter battery under the drivers seat. Can I connect the starter battery to the house battery with the Deka Battery Charger in between? Should I also add a battery isolater on the starter battery side to protect both batteries or does this product do that? I believe I read that you did not want to connect directly from the alternator for various reasons? ...not to mention it is 8 to 10 ft away! I understand that a smart charger can do a better job of charging and maintaining the house battery.

Expert Reply:

For you application the Deka Battery Isolator # DW08770 would be a solid choice and a great solution. It will allow you to charge your auxiliary batteries from your alternator while preventing the aux batteries from draining the main battery when the vehicle is off. It also enhances the alternator charge to make it ideal for charging a battery.
