Do I Need to Run a Power Wire to Install a Brake Controller on a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Question:
I have a 2018 Chevy silverado and I am trying to hook up the electric brake controller and it says in the book and I called the dealer and they also said out under the hood somewhere around the fuse box on driver side inner fender there is some wires that need to be hooked up to power the controller has any one run into this before?

I have heard of attaching the 12 volt brake controller power wire on the factory wiring to the power distribution center (PDC) for GM vehicles but not on a 2018, only the 2007-2013 models require this to my understanding. I also checked in the owner's manual for your 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and did not see any mention of hooking up a power wire. Have you tested the red/green wire on the brake controller port under the dash near the emergency brake pedal for power? If the wire has power then you will be good to go and won't need to hook up anything under the hood.
If you do not already have a brake controller, I recommend using the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195 with the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers part # 3016 because it is our best selling option and have some excellent features such as integrated safeguards, continuous diagnostic checks, and a customizable display.
I have attached a review video for you as well.
