Yakima Trunk Mount Bike Rack Recommendations for a 2009 Honda CR-V

Question:

I have a 2009 Honda CRV. Which Yakima racks would fit my vehicle? I do not have a hitch, so would be interested in the gate mounted ones. Are there ones that would allow the back gate to still open after the bike is taken off without completely taking off the rack?

There are several Yakima trunk mounted bike racks that will work on the 2009 Honda CR-V. The HangOut, FullBack, and the HalfBack bike racks, will all work on your vehicle, see link. The only Yakima rack not recommended for your CR-V is the LittleJoe rack.

I would recommend the Yakima HangOut 3 Bike Rack, # Y02638, because this rack is very versatile for use on other vehicles if desired.

If you will be carrying bikes without a horizontal top frame to mount on the cradle arms, an adapter is recommended. We have a video showing the Yakima Tube Top Bike Adapter Bar, # Y02531, which would work great with the Yakima bike rack.

I would not recommend leaving any trunk mounted bike rack on when opening the rear gate. The weight of the rack could cause the gate to fall on someone unexpectedly, or it could damage the lift cylinders on the vehicle gate.
