Troubleshooting Tail/Running Lights on Horse Trailer Not Working

Question:

I have a 2014 f150. Hooked a horse trailer up, had brakes and blinkers. But when sun went down, no lights on the trailer going down the road. Still had brakes and turn signals, just no traveling lights.

It sounds like you have a short somewhere on your running light circuit. Start off by checking out the connector on your 2014 Ford F-150 and your horse trailer and clean out any debris or corrosion.

If those look good, then the next step is to isolate which end of your towing setup is causing the problem. You can do this by using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to see if your pickup is sending power to the running light circuit or simply connect your F-150 to a different trailer and your trailer to a different pickup.

Once you have isolated the issue it is just a matter of inspecting the wiring for that circuit and fixing any places where there is damaged or bent wiring. If all of your wiring looks good then you will also want to check the ground connections for your running lights to ensure that they are secure and connected to a clean, bare-metal surface.

If you follow the above steps, then you should be able to find the issue but if you can't just let me know and I can help you troubleshoot further.
