What 5th Wheel Trailers Can a 2010 Ram 2500 Laramie with the 5.7L Tow
Question:
Hello, I just recently got a 2010 Dodge Ram Laramie 5.7l 2500 Heavy Duty Hemi and we are looking at getting a 5th wheel but I have no idea the tow weight it’ll do. I have seen so many different numbers online I am not confident in anything at this point. It also has airbags so I don’t know if that makes a difference. If you can help I would greatly appreciate knowing the max tow weigh for my truck. Thanks

According to my research, the towing capacity of your 2010 Ram 2500 Laramie with the 5.7L V8 engine is 11,350 lbs. Therefore you will be looking at trailers like the Forest River Arctic Wolf 265DBH8, Jayco Eagle HT 24.5CKTS, and the Grand Design Reflection 150 Series 290BH which are all under the towing capacity of your Ram.
In order to install a 5th wheel hitch on your Ram you will need to use a sliding hitch if you have a short bed or a fixed 5th wheel hitch if you have a long bed. You can also use a fixed 5th wheel hitch and Sidewinder pin box if you have a short bed but this will be the least cost effective option. If you have a short bed then I recommend using the Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # C16521 with the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit part # C16420-204. If you have a long bed then I recommend using the Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # C16120 with the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit part # C16420-204.
The Curt A16 is a great choice for you. It has a 16,000 lb towing capacity which will be more than enough for your needs, a three point indicator system which lets you know when you are ready to uncouple, couple, or tow, and a two piece locking jaw which creates maximum jaw to kingpin contact that in turn reduces chucking and jaring. The base rail install kit is a custom fit so no drilling into the frame will be required.
I have attached sample install videos for you as well.
