Weight Distribution System for Pace 6 by 12 Foot Utility Trailer Being Towed by 2002 Expedition
Question:
Hi All, I have a 2002, Ford Expedition 4 X 4, on 17 inch tires. I have just purchased a Pace 6 X 12 cargo trailer no trailer breaks which weigh 990 lbs and will put in approximately 1500 lbs of cargo, which system would be the best for me. Thank You very much.

Weight Distribution Systems are classified by the tongue weight or downward force that the trailer applies to the trailer ball.
If the dry, unloaded weight of the trailer and the weight of the cargo as it is typically loaded is known, we can calculate the tongue weight.
The tongue weight is typically 10-15 percent of the fully loaded ready to tow weight of the trailer. Anything stored behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle should also be considered tongue weight. Given the weights you supplied, the tongue weight of the trailer is probably between 250 and 375 lbs.
I would recommend the Reese High Performance Weight Distribution System, part # RP66540. This system is specifically designed for trailers with tongue weights ranging from 200 to 600 lbs and would work great for your trailer. The adjustable weight distributing shank is included, but a trailer ball with a 1-1/4 inch shank will be needed. For a 2 inch ball, use part # A-90. For a 1-7/8 inch ball, part # 19286 will be needed.
