Dexter EOH Disc Brake Actutator Compatibility with 2018 Ford F-350

Question:

I have a 2018 Ford F350 and I am looking into putting an EOH setup on my boat trailer since I am completely over the surge setup in traffic. I am interested in the Dexter more so than the BrakeRite and not slightly interested in the Hydrastar so that is out of the picture. I dont want to modify or add anything at all to my truck just to make something on my trailer work correctly. Any suggestions?

The only modification needed on your F-350 to enable use of an electric-over-hydraulic trailer brake actuator like the Dexter # K71-650 (for drum brakes) or # K71-651 (for disc brakes) is installation of a trailer brake controller such as the Prodigy P3 # 90195.

Not all trailer brake controllers are compatible with EOH actuators but the P3 has this capability that is easily selected on its main menu screen. The P3 also lets you store specific power settings that you can call up when needed and it will let you apply the trailer brakes without also applying the truck's brakes.

If your 2018 F-350 has a factory 7-way setup then all you need is the controller itself # 90195, the mating wiring adapter # 22292 that plugs in under the dash and a breakaway kit like # 20400.

Goretite seals protect the internal electronics from exposure to water and other elements but you'll want to take care to mount the Dexter EOH unit level and upright in a dry area on your trailer. It is recommended that you mount the actuator near the front of your trailer. Do not mount it near the trailer axles or at the rear of the trailer.
