In general it is best to use the shortest suitable length of hose for just about any propane application since a shorter hose means less potential for pressure loss. To connect two tanks to the Camco Automatic Changeover 2-Stage Propane Regulator # CAM59005 you could use a pigtail as short as the 15-inch MB Sturgis # 100833-15 or the 3-foot # 100833-36, both shown on the linked page.
