How to Raise a Cargo Carrier on a Minivan for More Ground Clearance

Question:

I need help figuring out how to lift my wheelchair/scooter carrier up several inches so it doesn’t hit the ground while driving. I have a 2014 Chrysler Town and Country that has a Class III Mopar hitch attached. We attached our scooter carrier to the hitch carrier weighs 100lbs, and then loaded the scooter almost 270lbs. The weight of those, plus the weight of 5-6 people in the van has caused the carrier to only have about 5” of clearance to the ground. I was looking at this product as a way of lifting the whole carrier up so we can get the ground clearance we need. Will this product work for what I need, or is there a different product that would be better? Thanks!

The best option I have for you is to use the MaxxTow Ball Mount part # MT70066 which will raise the cargo carrier another 6" off the ground. The reason I recommend this option over other adapters is because it will not reduce your tongue weight capacity by 50% like all of the other options will. The ball mount portion will not be needed for your application but is needed for strength.

The Blue Ox Towbar Drop or Rise Receiver part # BX88130 is designed for flat-towing only and cannot be used with a cargo carrier.
